Welcome to the California Taking Charge movement. This platform was designed uniquely for youth in the foster care system and the adults who desire to support them in their educational journey.
We aim to empower you to identify how you can authentically take charge in your life through this experience. We look forward to vibing with you, inspiring you, and hearing about the future results of your decision to take charge!
We Have You Covered
EdTok is a team virtual scavenger hunt that will feed into a database for foster youth so that they can continue to take charge. Students will be automatically separated into teams to search Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube for tips that fall within the Taking Charge pillars. When the cart is full the information will be sent to a Taking Charge database where students can look up tips at any time! The first team to fill their EdTok Cart wins the game, but all students are pouring into each other to take charge of their future!
Middle and high school students will be broken into small grade-specific groups to discuss three leadership practices, identify and build upon strengths to build their resiliency past trauma, and develop a leadership mission.
Representatives from the middle school groups will present their thoughts as collected by the different groups about the four pillars discussed on day one.
Representatives from the high school groups will present their thoughts as collected by the different groups about the four pillars discussed on day one.
"Embracing that change within is a good thing."
"Acknowledging that you are bigger than any situation."
"Knowing what self-love looks like and practicing it everyday."
"Forgiving those who are not sorry for what they have done, but for your peace."
"Making the choice to be different than those around you."
"Accepting that you are the hero or villain of your story. Choose wisely."
"Being flexible in your life plans."
"Creating your own perfect world that is ever changing, but it's yours."
I choose to be a leader and practice self-care. I lead by speaking up as an advocate. My advocacy changes myself and my community. I have a plan for my life and you cannot stop me. Starting right now, I will take charge.
